METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. Then we slide the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses any more pressure than necessary to clean concrete. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
